Let, the present age of the son be, 'x'

∴ The age of the father = (x*3)

                                       = 3x

5 years ago the age of the son was = (x-5) years

5 years ago the age of the father was = (3x-5) years

By condition,

(x-5)*5 = 3x-5

or, 5x-25 = 3x -5

or, 5x-3x = -5 +25

or, 2x=20

or, x = 20/2

or, x = 10

So, the present age of the son is 10 years.

∴ The present age of the father = (10*3) years

                                                     = 30 years

(Ans): The age of the son is 10 years; The age of the father is 30 years.
