the age of father exceeds to the square of the age of his son by 4 years the sum of the age of father and four times the age of his son is 64 find their ages

age of father = x^2+4

according to question,

x^2 + 4 + 4x = 64

x^2 + 4x = 64 - 4

x^2 + 4x = 60

x^2 + 4x - 60 =0

x^2 - 6x + 10x - 60 = 0

x (x - 6) + 10 (x - 6)=0

(x - 6) (x + 10) = 0

therefore x = 6 and x= -10 (not possible)

so age of the son = 6 yrs and age of father = x^2+4

                                                                        =(6)^2+4

                                                                        =36+4

                                                                        =40 yrs
