Answer:

age of son=x

age of father=40+x

after five years

son age=x+5

father's age=40+x+5

=45+x

45+x=2(5+x)

45+x=10+2x

45-10=-x+2x

35=x

present age of son=35 years

present age of father=40+x

=40+35

=75 years

Answer:

Let age of son and father be x and y .

Case1:- x+40=y

x-y=-40 ------------(1)

Case2:- y+5=2(x+5)

y+5=2x+10

2x-y=5-10

2x-y=-5 ------------(2)

subtract equation (2)and(1)

2×-y= -5

x - y= -40

(-) (+) (+)

----------

x = 35

putting the value of x =35 in eqaution (1)

35 - y= -40

-y = -40 -35

-y= -75

y = 75

hence the age of son be 35 year and father be 75
