Let the son's age be x

Age of father = x+40

After 5 years,

Son's age = x+5

Father's age = 3*x+5

Given:

3(x+5)= x+45  {40 +5 as it is after 5 years}

= 3x+15 = x+45

= 3x-x= 45-15

= 2x= 30

x= 30/2

x= 15

Son's present age = 15 years

Father's present age= 15+40 = 55 years
