let the present age of father be x and the sum of the present ages of his two children be y
it is given that the age of father is twice the sum of the ages of his children
∵x=2y
x-2y= 0..................(eq1)
fathers age after 20 years= x+20 and sum of the ages of his children=y+40 since there are two children
it is given that after twenty years his age will be equal to the sum of the ages of his two children
∵x+20=y+40
x-y=20.....................(eq 2)
from equations 1 and 2
BY ELIMINATION METHOD
x+40
hence fathers age is 40

Answer:

40

Step-by-step explanation:

Father =x

Two childrens=y+y=2y

X=2y---------(1)

X+20=y+40

X-y=20-------(2)

(1) in (2)

2y-y=20

Y=20

X=2(20)

X=40
