Given  : The age of grandmother is square of her granddaughter's age.

Four years ago, she was 15 times the child age.

To Find : their present age.

Solution :

granddaughter's age.   = x  years

The age of grandmother is square of her granddaughter's age.

=>  age of grandmother  = x²  years

Four years ago, granddaughter's age.   = x - 4  years

Four years ago, grandmother  age.   = x² - 4  years

15 times the child age.

=>  x² - 4   = 15(x - 4)

=>   x² - 4   = 15x - 60

=> x²  - 15x  + 56 = 0

=> x² - 7x - 8x + 56 = 0

=> (x - 7)(x - 8) = 0

=> x = 7  or  x = 8

x² = 49   or x² = 64

their present ages can be  49 & 7  years

or 64 and 8 Years
