and

=> x + 2x = 39

=> 3x = 39

=> x = 13

Ravi's age is 2x13 i.e 26 yrs

Solution:-

Given:- a) The age of ravi is twice the age of raju.

b) sum of their ages is 39.

let, age of raju be x ....... ( 1 )

so, from given ( a )

age of ravi is 2x ........ ( 2 )

now, from given ( b ) we know that

=> age of raju + age of ravi = 39

=> x + 2x = 39

=> 3x = 39

=> x = 39/3

=> x = 13

Hence age of raju as per ( 1 ) is 13

now from ( 2 )

=> age of ravi = 2x

=> age of ravi = 2( 13 )

=> age of ravi = 26

Hence age of raju and age of ravi

are 13 and 26 respectively.
