So, let the present age of Suman be 3x and let the present age of Neelam be 4x

Four years before, age of Suman = 3x - 4 and age of Neelam = 4x - 4

Four years before, their ages were in the ratio 5 : 7


According to the question,

\dfrac{3x - 4}{4x - 4} = \dfrac{5}{7}

7(3x\:-\:4) \: = \: 5(4x\:-\:4)

21x\:-\:28\:=\:20x\:-\:20

21x\:-\:20x\:=\:-20\:+28

x\:=\:8




∴ Present age of Suman ➾ 3x

➾ 3 × 8

➾ 24 years


∴ Present age of Neelam ➾ 4x

➾ 4 × 8

➾ 32 years

before the age of Suman=3x - 4
before the age of neelam=4x - 4

So, now

7(3x \: - 4) = 5(4x - 4)

21x \: - 28 \: = 20x \: - 20

x = 8

=> 3 × 8

➡ 24 years
