According To Given Question

\\

↗ Let the present ages of children be x years and y years respectively.

Then, the present age of the father is twice the sum of the ages of his 2 children = 2(x + y) ----(i)

His children's ages after 20 years will be (x + 20) years and (y + 20) years.

Father's age after 20 years will be [2(x + y) + 20] years.

Then,

⟾ (x + 20) + (y + 20)

⟾ 2(x + y) + 20

⟾ x +y + 40

⟾ 2x + 2y + 20

⟾ 40 - 20 = 2x + 2y - y

∴ x +y = 20

⤵ Putting the value of (x + y) in equ (i), we get

⟾ 2(x + y) = 2(20) = 40 years

Hence, the present age of the father is 40 years.
