Given:-

  • Age of Yam is 5yrs more than age of Shyam.
  • 5yrs ago the ratio of their ages was 3:2

Find:-

  • Their Present Ages.

Solution:-

Let, The Present age of Yam be 'x' yrs

and, The Present Age of Shyam be 'y' yrs

Age of Yam's is 5yrs more than age of Shyam.

So,

↣x = y + 5...........[Equation ➊]

5 years ago:

◙ Age of Yam = 'x - 5' yrs

◙ Age of Shyam = 'y - 5' yrs

Five years ago Ratio of their ages was 3:2

↬(x - 5)/(y - 5) = 3/2

Cross Multiplication

↬2(x - 5) = 3(y - 5)

↬2x - 10 = 3y - 15

↬2x = 3y - 15 + 10

↬2x = 3y - 5

Substituting Equation (x = y + 5)

➠ 2(y + 5) = 3y - 5

➠ 2y + 10 = 3y - 5

➠ 10 + 5 = 3y - 2y

➠ 15 = y

➠ y = 15yrs

Now, Substituting the value of y in Equation

➨ x = y + 5

➨ x = 15 + 5

➨ x = 20yrs

Hence,

❍ Present Age of Yam = 20yrs

❍ Present Age of Shyam = 15yrs
