Given:

The ages of A and B are in ratio 2:1, ten years hence the ratio will be 5:3.

To Find:

Their present ages.

Solution:

To find their present ages we will follow the following steps:

Let the ratio of their common ages be x.

Then,

The present age of A = 2x

The present age of B = x

After 10 years age of A = 10+2x and the age of B = 10 + x

Now,

According to the question, the age ratio of A and B after 10 years =

 \frac{10 + 2x}{10 + x}  =  \frac{5}{3}

Now, solving RHS and LHS we get,

3 × (10+2x) = 5× (10 + x)

30+6x = 50 + 5x

x = 50-30 = 20

The present age of A = 2x= 2×20= 40

The present age of B = x = 20

Henceforth, the present ages of A and B are 40 and 20 respectively.
