Let, the common multiple of the ratio be, 'x'

So, their ages are:

(3*x)

= 3x

(5*x)

= 5x

After 4 years their ages will be:

(3x+4) years

= 3x+4 years

(5x+4) years

= 5x+4 years

By condition,

3x+4+5x+4 = 48

or, 8x+8 = 48

or, 8x = 48-8

or, x = 40/8

or, x = 5

So, the age of A is (5*3) years

                                = 15 years

The age of B is (5*5) years

                              = 25 years
