the ages of Amit and summit are in ratio of 2:3after 15 years their ages will be 3:4 find their present ages

atharvaholmukheno1: You have to take Summita age as x and Amits age as y and have to write 2x+15/3y=3y/4y then cross multiply and you should get x =60 and that would be Summits age 15 years hence, then substitute it in 3x/4y you will get Amita age 15 years hence and that would be 45. Minus 15 from both of the ages and you get their ages 15 years back. Check the ratio and that should be correct.

Answer:

let today's age of Amit be 'x' and Summit be 'y'

x:y = 2:3

x/y = 2/3    ---------------i

after 15 years , Amit's age = x+15 and Summits age = y +15

(x+15) : (y+15) = 3:4

x+15/ y+15 = 3/4

cross multiply

4(x+15) = 3( y+15)

4x+60 = 3y+45

4x-3y= - 15

putting value of  'x' from eq i, x= 2y/3

4(2y/3) - 3y = -15

8y/3 - 3y = -15

taking LCM of LHS

(8y - 9y) /3 = -15

8y - 9y = -45

y = 45

putting value of 'y' in eq i

x/45 = 2/3

x = (45 x 2)/3

x = 30

so Amit's present age = 30 yrs and summits present age = 45 yrs
