The ages of Rahul and Haroon are in the ratio 5 : 7 .

Let the common multiple be x .

So the ages of Rahul and Haroon be 5x & 7x

Four years later their ahes will be 5x + 4 & 7x + 4 years respectively.

Their sum is 56 years

So we get the equation,

5x + 4 + 7x + 4 = 56

》12x + 8 = 56

》12x = 56 - 8

》12x = 48

》x = 48/12

》x = 4 .

So the ages of Rahul are 5 × 4 = 20 years & Haroon age is 7 × 4 = 28 years .

To Find :- Their present ages.

Solution :- let the age of Rahul and Haroon be x.

As given that their ratio is 5:7

present Age of Rahul = 5x --- ( 1 )
present Age of Haroon = 7x --- ( 2 )

Now, 4 years later sum of their age is 56.

4 years later age of Rahul = 5x + 4
4 years later age of Haroon = 7x + 4

( 5x + 4 ) + ( 7x + 4 ) = 56
5x + 4 + 7x + 4 = 56
12x + 8 = 56
12x = 56 - 8
12x = 48
x = 48/12
x = 4

Put value of ( x ) in eq. ( 1 ) and in eq. ( 2 )...,

Present age of Rahul = 5( 4 ) = 20 years
present age of Haroon = 7( 4 ) = 28 years
