The ages of Rahul and Haroon are in the ratio 5 : 7. Fouryears later the sum of their ages will be 56

Let the current age of Rahul and Haroon be 5x and 7x respectively

Four years later their ages become 5x + 4 and 7x + 4 respectively.

According to the question,

5x + 4 +7x + 4 = 56

or 12x + 8 = 56

Transposing 8 to the RHS we get,

12x = 48

Dividing both sides by 12 gives,

x = 48/12 = 4

Thus current age of Rahul = 5*4 = 20

Haroon = 7*4 = 28
