The ages of Ram and Shyam are in the ratio 2:1 and after 5 years their ratios are 3:2, then what is the present age?

Solution: The current ages of Ram and Shyam are R and S.

R:S = 2:1 or

R = 2S, or

2R = 4S …(1)

(R+5):(S+5) = 3:2, or

2R+10 = 3S+15, or

2R = 3S+5 …(2)

From (1) and (2): 4S = 3S+5, or S = 5.

So, Shyam is 5 years nor and Ram is 10. Answer.

Answer:

  • The ages of Ram and Sham are 10 and 15 years

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

  • The ages of Ram and Sham are in the ratio 2:3
  • 5 years from now the ratio of their ages will be 3:4

To Find:

  • Their present ages

Assumptions:

  • Let the age of Ram be 2x
  • Let the age of Sham be 3x

Full Solution:

The age of Ram and Sham after 5 years will be,

\rightarrow \rm { Age \: of\; Ram = 2x + 5 }

\rightarrow \rm { Age \: of\; Sham = 3x + 5 }

According to the question,

\rightarrow \rm { \dfrac{2x + 5}{ 3x+5} =\dfrac{3}{4}}

By Cross Multiplication,

\rightarrow \rm {4(2x+5)=3(2x+5) }

\rightarrow \rm {8x + 20 = 9x + 15 }

\rightarrow \rm {9x - 8x =  20 - 15}

\rightarrow {\pink{\boxed{\frak {x  =  5}}}}

Hence,

  • The age of Ram = 2x = 2(5) = 10 Years
  • The age of Sham = 3x = 3(5) = 15 years
