• Present Ages of Ram and Sham are in the ratio 2:3 .
• After 5 years the ratio of their ages will be 3:4 .

To Find :

• Present Age of Ram and Sham .

Solution :

$\longmapsto\tt{Let\:Age\:of\:Ram\:be=2x}$

$\longmapsto\tt{Let\:Age\:of\:Sham\:be=3x}$

After 5 years :

$\longmapsto\tt{Age\:of\:Ram=2x+5}$

$\longmapsto\tt{Age\:of\:Sham=3x+5}$

A.T.Q :

$\longmapsto\tt{\dfrac{2x+5}{3x+5}=\dfrac{3}{4}}$

$\longmapsto\tt{4(2x+5)=3(3x+5)}$

$\longmapsto\tt{8x+20=9x+15}$

$\longmapsto\tt{8x-9x=15-20}$

$\longmapsto\tt{-x=-5}$

$\longmapsto\tt\bf{x=5}$

Value of x is 5 .

Therefore :

$\longmapsto\tt{Present\:Age\:of\:Ram=2(5)}$

$\longmapsto\tt\bf{10\:yrs}$

$\longmapsto\tt{Present\:Age\:of\:Sham=3(5)}$

$\longmapsto\tt\bf{15\:yrs}$

To Find :-

Their present ages

Solution :-

Let the ages be 2x and 3x

Now

2x + 5/3x + 5 = 3/4

4(2x + 5) = 3(3x + 5)

8x + 20 = 9x + 15

9x - 8x = 20 - 15

x = 5

Now

Age of Ram = 2x = 10 years

Age of Sham = 3x = 15 years
