Step by Step explanation :

Given that the ratio of Sam to John's age would be 4 : 5

So , Let Sam age would be 4x yrs. while that of John's age would be 5x yrs.

Now, After Six yrs. duration

Sam age must be (4x +6 ) yrs

John age must be ( 5x + 6 )yrs.

ATQ

 \frac{4x + 6}{5x + 6}  =  \frac{7}{8}

by \: cross \: multiplication

we get ,

32x + 48 = 35x + 42

35x  - 32x = 48 - 42

3x = 6

x = 2

Now , To calculate their present ages what we have assumed is

Sam's age (4x yrs ) = 4× 2 = 8 yrs ______(1)

John's age (5x yrs ) = 5×2 = 10 yrs _______(2)

Hope this helps!!
