Define x:

Let x be the constant ratio

Sona : Sonali = 5x : 3x

Express their age 5 years later:

Sona = 5x + 5

Sonali = 3x + 5

Solve x:

The ratio then is 10 : 7

( 5x + 5 )/(3x + 5) = 10/7

7(5x + 5) = 10(3x + 5)

35x + 35 = 30x + 50

5x = 15

x = 3

Find their present age:

Sona = 5x = 5(3) = 15 years old

Sonali = 3x = 3(3) = 9 years old

Answer: Sona is 15 years old and Sonali is 9 years old
