Explanation:

The focal length of a lens is depended on the surrounding medium. The reason behind this phenomenon is that the angle of refraction of a lens is depended on the indices of refraction of the medium of lens and the incoming medium and the difference in their indices.

We can find the lens’s dependency on its surrounding through a simple experiment. For conducting the experiment, one needs some equipment like glass beaker, convex lens, water, lens holder stone and measuring scale.

There are two mediums in finding the focal length of the lens can be find only.

Explanation:

One medium is the air and other medium is the lens through which light bends and changes its direction.

To find the focal length, place the lens through lens holder and place an object on the principal axis of the lens and try to see the image of the object from other side.

When you can see the image at it's sharp focus. The object is at the focus of the lens then.

Hence, calculate the focal length.
