In order to find the refractive index of prism, we would need a number of materials like that of a mercury lamp, a spectrometer, a prism and a spirit level.

However the main aim of such an experiment would be find out the the refractive index of prism at a number of wavelengths in a mercury based spectrum.

This has to initiated by focusing a telescope at a distance i.e infinity.

Then respective angles are to be measured at a point called Prism A.

Then one should all check angle of incidence and make adjustments if required.

Then measure has to be taken when the prism is not placed and finally the refractive index can be calculated.
