Aluminium articles are used to make anode in Anodizing process to form a thick layer aluminium oxide in it because anodized aluminum have more corrosive resistance, improved lubrication, improved adhesion and they are allowed dyeing.

In anodising the aluminium is first etched with sodium hydroxide solution to remove the existing oxide layer, and then making the aluminium article the anode in electrolysis of dilute sulphuric acid.

• The oxygen given off at the anode reacts with the aluminium surface, and form a film of oxide up to about 0.02 mm thick.
