The alveolar ridge is the organ responsible for creating both voiced and voiceless sounds - False

  • The glottis is the gap found in the larynx between the vocal folds. It produces different vibration patterns for the distinction between voiceless and voiceless sounds.
  • Voiced sounds occur when the sound is made, when the vocal cords vibrate. When making voiceless sounds there is no vocal cord vibration.
  • A person is able to detect a vibration when making the voiced sounds. If voiceless sounds are said then vibration cant be heard.

The voice box or Larynx is responsible for voice or voiceless sound.

Explanation:

The voice or voiceless sound occurs with the help of vocal chords vibration which exists within the larynx.  Whereas, Alveolar ridge is the extension of the upper & lower part of the jaw also known as Maxilla and mandible. It holds the sockets of teeth structure. The Alveolar ridge is not responsible for the sound.

Some facts about Larynx-

  • The Larynx is a muscular organ of the voice system which holds the vocal chords. It is located on top of windpipe also known as trachea.  
  • The voice system comprises of three parts - The lungs, the articulators and vocal folds which are present within the voice box or larynx.
  • The vocal folds vibrate with the help of air pressure produced by the pump of the lungs.

  • The voiced sounds vibration can be felt whereas for a voiceless sound there is no feeling of vibration.
