AMNION is derived from extra embryonic somatic mesoderm on the outer side and extra embryonic ectoderm trophoblast from inside..
these cells are mainly derived from the epiblast cells which transforms into ectoderm
so it is a protective covering which protects the baby from mechanical shock and as it is filled with amniotic fluid ,it also prevents the foetus from drying...
