The amount of air present in the cylinder when a vacuum pump removes each time 1/4 th of their remaining in the cylinder.

Will this sequence form an AP in this situation?

Let the amount of air present in the cylinder x units.

1/4x×=3 x/4 units.

1/4 x3 x /16 units.

air remaining= 3×/4-3/16.

= 12×-3×/16

=9×/16

x,3×/4,9×/16...

common difference (d)=9×/16-3×/4

=9×=12×/16

=-3 x/16

common difference (d)=3×/4- x

=3×-4×/4

x/4.
