energy needed = 3 kJ

we have to find the energy needed in changing a condenser of capacitance 15μF to 20kV

capacitance of condenser, C = 15μF = 1.5 × 10^-5 F

potential difference across the condenser, V = 20kV = 2 × 10⁴ V

now, using formula

U = 1/2 CV²

= 1/2 × 1.5 × 10^-5 × (2 × 10⁴)²

= 1/2 × 1.5 × 10^-5 × 4 × 10^8

= 3 × 10³ J

= 3 kJ
