Answer : The correct answer is option A

The amount of Oxygen required to combust 100 g of Magnesium is 100 / 3 g

Step-by-step Explanation :

Given : The amount of Magnesium = 100 g

To find : the amount of Oxygen = ?

The combustion of reaction of Magnesium is given by,

2Mg + O2 --------------→ 2MgO

Hence from the above reaction we can say that,

For combustion of 2 moles of Magnesium 1 mole of oxygen is required.

But we know that,

1 mole of Magnesium weighs 24.31 g & 1 mole of Oxygen weighs 16 g

Therefore we can say that for burning 2 × 24.31 g of Magnesium 16 g of Oxygen is needed.

∴ 48.62 g Magnesium --------------- 16 g Oxygen

100 g Magnesium ------------------- ?

( Just simply do cross multiplication )

16 × 100 / 48.62 = required amount of Oxygen

1600 / 48.62 = required amount of Oxygen

32.9 = 33 g = 100 /3 is the required amount of Oxygen
