angle X + angle Y = 90°
let X = y-40°
y-40° + Y = 90°
2Y = 130
Y= 65°
X = 25°

let the smaller angle be x
so both angles would be x and x+40
now complementary angles have sum equal to 90°
x+x+40=90
2x=90-40
x=50/2
x=25
so both angles will be 25 and 25+40=75
