Did you mean |B-A| and |B+A|? Without lack of generality, I start A at (0, 0) and end it at (1, 0), and start B at (0, 0) and end it at (.5, sqrt( 3) / 2). That being the case the vector B + A would start at (0, 0) and end at (1.5, sqrt( 3) / 2).

Then |A + B| = sqrt( 9/4 + 3/4) = sqrt( 12/4) = sqrt( 3) ~= 1.732

B - A would start at (0, 0) and end at (-.5, sqrt( 3) / 2).

Then |B - A| = sqrt( 3/4 + 1/4) = sqrt( 4/4) = 1
