When we see an object above the horizontal line, then the angle between line of sight and horizontal line is called angle of elevation. When we see an object below the horizontal line, then the angle between line of sight and horizontal line is called angle of depression.

Angle of depression

Reason: When the line of sight (or the imaginary line that our eyes look over) is below the horizontal level, we are looking downwards. Thus, the angle so formed, is known as angle of depression.
