The angle of elevation of a jet plane from a point A on the ground is 60 degrees after a flight of 30 seconds,the angle of elevation changes to 30 degrees.if the jet plane is flying at a constant height of 3600 root 3 meter find the speed of a jet plane.

The answer is 240 m/s

GIVEN

The angle of elevation of a jet plane from a point A on the ground is 60 degrees after a flight of 30 seconds,the angle of elevation changes to 30 degrees.The jet plane is flying at a constant height of 3600 root 3 meter.

TO FIND

The speed of the jet plane.

SOLUTION

We can simply solve the above problem as follows;

In ΔBED

tan(30) = ED/BD

 \frac{1}{ \sqrt{3} }  =  \frac{3600 \sqrt{3} }{BD}

BD = 3600√3 × √3 = 10800 meters

In Δ ABC

tan(60) = AC/BC

√3 = 3600√3/BC

BC = 3600 meters

distance travelled by the jet = CD

CD = BD-BC

CD = 10800 - 3600 = 7200 meters

Speed = Distance/Time

Speed = 7200/30 = 240m/s

Hence, The answer is 240 m/s
