solution : A rough diagram is shown in figure. here α denotes the angle of elevation of tower at point P.

Let distance from point to foot of tower is x

given, height of tower = 100m

given, α = tan^-1(4/5)

now, using tanα = Perpendicular/base

or, tan{tan^-1(4/5)} = 100/x

or, 4/5 = 100/x

or, x = 100 × 5/4 = 125m

hence, distance from point to the foot of the tower is 125m.
