Complementary angles add up to 90°

Let the larger angle be x

Let the smaller angle be 90° - x

According to the question,

x = 90 - x - 40

x + x = 90 - 40

2x = 50

x = \frac{50}{2}

x = 25°

Smaller angle => x => 25°

Larger angle => 90 -x => 90 - 25 => 65°
