SOLUTION

GIVEN

The angles of a triangle are in the ratio 5 : 1 : 3

TO DETERMINE

The product of the largest and smallest angle (in sq. degrees)

EVALUATION

Here it is given that the angles of a triangle are in the ratio 5 : 1 : 3

Let angles are 5x , x , 3x

So by the given condition

5x + x + 3x = 180°

⇒ 9x = 180°

⇒ x = 20°

Largest angle = 5x = 100°

Smallest angle = x = 20°

Hence the required product

= 100° × 20°

= 2000 sq. degrees
