by angle sum property ( sum of all the angles of a triangle is 180°),

x+y+40°=180°

x+y=140° ----------- i

now given,

x-y=30° --------- ii

on solving i & ii by adding ;we get

x+y=140°

x-y=30°

2x= 170°

x=85°

y= 140°-85°(from eqn i)

y=55°
