The angular width of the central
maximum in single slit diffraction
pattern is 600. The width of the slit is
1 m . The slit is illuminated by
monochromatic plane waves. If another
slit of same width is made near it,
Young’s fringe can be observed on a
screen placed at a distance 50 cm from
the slits. If the observed fringe width
is 1 cm what is slit separation distance
(i.e. distance between the centres of
each slit.)

 Explanation:

Central maximum is 60⁰ = 2a

a = 30⁰

For single slit

a sin∅ =nλ

1 x 10⁻⁶ x 1/2 = λ

λ= 5 x 10⁻⁷

For double  slit

β = λD /d

0.01 = 5 x 10⁻⁷ x 0.5 /d

d = 22μm

Hope you understand
