We can solve this by using Simple interest formula .

Let's population = principal

 \blue{ACQ}

Population = 156800

Rate of growth = 12 %

time = 2 years

By using SI formula =( p x r x t )/100

 \frac{156800 \times 12 \times 2}{100}  = 37632 \\

Population of town two years ago =

156800 - 37632 = 119168

Answer:

use p×r×t/100

156800×12×2/100=37632

then

156800-37632=119168
