Let old (original) price of a chair = Rs. 100

Reduction = 25% = Rs. 25

∴Reduced price = Rs. 100 – Rs. 25 = Rs. 75

(i) Ratio between change in price and old price = 25 : 100

= 1:4 (Dividing by 25)

(ii) Ratio between old price and new price = 100 : 75

= 4:3 (Dividing by 25)

Let the initial price be 'x'

reduction in price = ( x - 1075)

This is equal to 14% the original price

Hence

x - 1075 = \frac{14x}{100}

100x - 107500 = 14x

86x = 107500

x = \frac{107500}{86}

x = 1250

That is the initial price of chair is Rs 1250
