Question:-

The age of a father is thrice the age of his son. The father is 40years older than his son. Find the ages of father and son.

Answer:-

It is given that age of a father is thrice the age of his son.

Let the son's age be x

Then the father's age = 3x ---------(1)

It is also given that father is 40 years older than his son. So we can write another equation that is:

Father's age = 40 + x -----------(2)

In (1) and (2) equations, LHS is same, so RHS will also be same.

A/q

3x = 40 + x

==> 3x - x = 40

==> 2x = 40

==> x = 40/2 = 20

Son's age = x = 20 years

Father's age = 3x = 60 years
