Answer:

I) Carbon dioxide is produced by green plants during respiration.

ii) As the air is pumped into Flask C, there is no change in limewater. Once, it leaves through Flask A, limewater turns milky as carbon dioxide produced by plant by using oxygen from air is heavier than air.

iii) Soda lime is used to absorb carbon dioxide from air

iv) Flask B is covered with black cloth as the entire experiment is carried out in dark. The purpose is to destarch the plant such that no light is received to perform photosynthesis and only the reserved starch is used up in experiment.

v)

a. Due to moisture, the seeds will be able to use up oxygen and perform respiration. However, as moist seeds swell up considerably, it may explode due to imbibition pressure after a while.

b. Mouse can't stay alive in closed jar and will die. Hence no oxygen will be used up and no carbon dioxide will be formed.

c. Water is an essential component for respiration, however due to absence of a living organism like plants, oxygen won't be used up and no carbon dioxide will be formed.
