. The apparent weight of a mass in a lift moving up is 80 kg when its weight in the stationary lift is 60 kg. If the same lift now moves up with same retardation, the weight of the mass will be 1) 40 kg 2) 60 kg 3) 80kg 4) 100 kg

Heya user !!!

Here's the answer you are looking for

»When a lift moves up with an acceleration a, then weight of any object inside it becomes

m(g+a)

So, here

m(g + a) = 80

and

mg = 60

So, m = 6 as y = 1c

so, m(g+a)=80

6(10 + a) = 80

10 + a = 40/3

a = 10/3 m/s²

Now the acceleration becomes retardation, so a = - 10 / (3 m/s ^ 2)

W = 6 (10 + (-10/3)]

W = 6(10 - 10/3)

W = 6(20/3) = 40N

Since weight is 40N, mass becomes 40/10 = 4kg
