Given,

The diameter of outer circle = 280m

Area of the circular road = 22176 sq.m

To find,

The width of the road.

Solution,

We can simply solve this mathematical problem by using the following mathematical process.

Radius of outer circle = 280/2 = 140 m

Let, the radius of the inner circle = x m

Area of outer circle = π×(140)² m² = 19600π m²

Area of inner circle = π×(x)² m² = x²π m²

Area of the road = π(19600-x²) m²

According to the data mentioned in the question,

π (19600-x²) = 22176

19600-x² = 7058.84

-x² = -12541.16

x² = 12541.16

x = 111.99 » 112 (approx)

Width of the road = (140-112) = 28 m

Hence, the width of the road is approximately 28 metres.
