The area of a convex quadrilateral ABCD , if AC is perpendicular to BD , AC = 3 cm and BD = 8 cm is ?

ADC is a triangle with base [math]AC=3[/math] and height [math]ED=BD-h=8-h[/math]

The area is the sum of [math]\frac 1 2 b h[/math] for each triangle.

[math]\textrm{area} = \frac 1 2 (3)(h) + \frac 1 2 (3)(8 -h) = \frac 1 2 (3) 8 = 12 \textrm{ sq cm}[/math]
