Then, base = 2x.



So, its area would be -

\sf{= base\: \times \: altitude}

\sf{= x \times 2x}

\sf{= {2x}^{2}}




♠ But, given area = 72 cm

=> \sf{{2x}^{2} = 72}

=> \sf{{x}^{2} = \frac{72}{2}}

=> \sf{{x}^{2} = 36}

=> \sf{x = \sqrt{36}}

=> \sf{x = 6}

\sf{Base \: = 2x = 2(6) = 12 cm}
