the area of a rectangle is 100 cm square. if the length and the width is increased by 50%,find out the area of the new rectangle

There is a simple trick to solve this type of question which includes reduction or increment in any two things .
x + y + xy / 100
in this ques you have to take x and y = 50
so
50 + 50 + 50 * 50 / 100 = 125 %
if there is reduction then take  x   = -50
and y is increased then take y = +50
-50 + 50 -50 * 50 / 100 = -25 means 25 % reduction
