area of a rectangle =length×width

means,

20x^2-27x-8 = 4x+1× width

width= area÷length

but in order to divide we can either factorize first and then divide or we can divide this by using long division method

i used long division method which is in the picture attached to this solution.

the quotient is coming after division is 5x-8

so the width= 5x-8

we can verify the answer by multiplying length and width and if the our area will be equal to the area given in question than width is correct.

Answer:

width=2

Step-by-step explanation:

A=L×W

let x be the width

20x^2-27x-8=(4x+1)x

by solving we get

4x^2-7x-2=0

now by factorization we get x=-1/4,x=2

both values satisfies area equation but we choose positive value as a width bcz width length and area are always positive

So, W=2
