Let the length of the diagonal be d and sides of the rectangle be a and b

Thus, d 2 =a 2 +b 2

40 2=24 2+b 2

1600=576+b 2

1024=b2

b=32cm

Length of longer side = 32 cm

Area of rectangle = length X breadth

Area of rectangle = 32×24

Area of rectangle =768 cm 2
