The area of a right angle triangle is 600sq.cm. If the base of the

triangle exceeds the altitude by 10cm. Find the dimensions of

the triangle. Plz explain in detail.

let altitude be x cm.

base=x +10

area of triangle=600sq.cm

    area of triangle=1/2 *b*h

600=1/2*x*(x+10)

1200=x^2+10x

x^2+10x-1200=0

x^2+40x-30x-1200=0

x(x+40)-30(x+40)=0

(x+40)(x-30)=0

x=-40 is not possible as altitude cannot be -ve

x=30

altitude=30 cm base=40 cm hypotenuse=50 cm
