The area of a right-angled triangle is 96 m2. If its base is three times its altitude, find the
base.​

Answer: 24m

Solution:

Let the altitude be x

then, base will be 3x

Area= 1/2 * base * altitude

96 = 1/2 * x * 3x

192 = 3x^(2)

divide both sides by 3

64 = x^(2)

64 - x^(2) = 0

(8 + x) (8 - x) = 0

x= 8m ------this is the altitude

Therefore, Base = 3 times altitude = 3 × 8 = 24m

Note: x^(2) means x square
