Apparatus given to us in the question:

STEP 1:

It is given that" The area of a square sheet of side 12 cm is same as that of a rectangle", So

1.) Area of square  = 12 cm------------area of a square = (a²)----( equation 1)
2.) Area of rectangle  = 9 cm----------area of a rectangle = l × b ( l= length
                                                                                                      b= breadth)--(equation 2)



STEP 2:

Breadth of the rectangle( b)  = 9 cm 
length  of the rectangle ( L  ) =  ??
from equation 1 and 2 

 area of a rectangle  = L × b = 12 cm  frm step 1 above
                                 =  L × 9  = 12 
                                    L  = 12 / 9
                                 ⇒ L = 4 / 3  ( if we divide we get 1.3333...bar )
